For more than 10,000 years, humans have used copper to create tools, implements, ornaments, coins and even to treat infections! Copper, with antimicrobial qualities, has been less and less prevalent in our daily lives, but our coppersmiths can bring this valuable material into your everyday existence.
Each of our unique SoLuna copper sinks is individually handcrafted by our second and third generation artisans, in the time-honored tradition of their ancestors. The larger farm sinks and kitchen sinks can actually take more than a full day from start to finish! To get a feel for how our sinks are made, watch the video. SoLuna sinks represent a sound environmental choice as our copper comes exclusively from recycled sources, is melted down to its elemental state and then hammered and shaped in an open forge into durable, unique works of art. Heat and other safe reactive agents create the patina or “living finish” that evolves in color and depth over time to create a rustic, warm glow.
Our Santa Clara de Cobre craftspeople use only the highest quality lead-free copper in their sinks and feature the thickest gauge copper available. This ensures that our sinks resist dents and dings and do not require sound insulation.
Artisans receive fair trade wages for each unique sink to encourage the excellence of their craft, environmental sustainability as well as social renewal. SoLuna stands for quality with a conscience.
